Sueños Rotos
(Broken Dreams)

This piece explores the hardships immigrants face when attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border. When detained, their belongings are confiscated—personal items and mementos discarded, reflecting how certain aspects of humanity are disregarded more than others. This neglect is also evident in the way detainees are treated and housed in detention centers.

I chose to highlight some of these confiscated items, encasing broken objects in glue to symbolize how they are frozen in time, abandoned by owners who will never return for them. The scattered glass reinforces the theme of shattered dreams—hopes for a better life destroyed and left behind as an afterthought of strict immigration policies.
