This tondo painting depicts an octopus attempting to camouflage itself as it prepares to capture its next meal.
But instead of blending into its surroundings, the octopus finds itself inside a clear glass bottle that offers no camouflage at all. Its prey, too, is out of place—a plastic toy fish washed into the octopus’s natural habitat.
