The Land of Indulgence

This series of tondo paintings is set in an amusement park called “The Land of Indulgence.”

The scenes depict individuals entranced by their surroundings, manipulated by the stylized figures that control the park. The paintings comment on our societal gullibility and our tendency not to question the intentions behind what is forced upon us as consumers.

This exaggerated reality initially creates a sense of distance for the viewer, only to reveal that it is not so different from the reality we currently live in.

With this series, I aimed to create a narrative where the viewer can connect the actions in one scene to the aftermath in another.

In this particular scene, children are being given popsicles with a suspicious blue hue and glow...

In this final scene, the viewer can infer that the boy has consumed one of the blue popsicles, resulting in his blue disposition. He now poses alongside the park's mascot, crowned the winner, and is awarded more park merchandise. Meanwhile, small versions of the stylized figure attempt to steal his wallet.

This scenario highlights the facades that consumer culture creates.
